Café Outside the Square is a 100% charity café and meeting/function facility that was established to provide food assistance and training opportunities for underprivileged and vulnerable people all around South Australia, including those facing homelessness.

You come across people or locations that make your heart sing every now and again. In one fell stroke, Café Outside The Square has taken care of both.
It’s a lovely location for coffee or a bite to eat, with high ceilings, white textured walls, and Mediterranean archways. It’s a delight to visit, housed in a beautiful structure on Whitmore Square (previously the famed Iliad restaurant). But it’s why it’s there that makes it genuinely unique. Tim Seymour-Smith and Mike Chalmers founded this registered charity in November of last year with the intention of giving back to the community.

Their goal is that every dollar spent at Café Outside The Square is re-invested in supporting those in need, such as the homeless, refugees, and prisoners because it is a non-profit organization. Tim and Mike want to help those who haven’t had the same opportunities or who have chosen a different course in life. The café is an ideal location to provide them with training, link them with job prospects, feed them, or simply interact with the community.

Community
The sense of community is strong here, and it’s one of the things the guys appreciate the most about the setting. Also, they’re a big supporter of local cafés and businesses, and they recognize what they’re doing is special.
On the other hand, there’s a lot to see and do… admire (or even buy) colorful local art on the walls, or check out some stunning jewelry made by local artists. Every weekend, you can stop by to hear local musicians amp up the energy and take in the buzz.
